Just bought an old HA4045 yardman. Push pedal either way and it goes nowhere. Previous owner says it was all running last year but he says if I take it back he will check it out. It means Ihave to borrow a trailer to do so. Is it something simple that I am not doing. I have fiddled with the springy thing at the back which allows you to neutralise the hydro and in either position it does not drive. What does the black flap/switch/ leverunder the dash do because it is loose and seems disconnected. Where would I get an ops manual.

There is a very long belt that goes all the way fro the engine to the back axel tucked right up near the floor so it is hard to see.
This should be on the top pulley of the engine set and another pulley on top of the rear axel just above or below the cooling fan.
About 1/2 way along it should go through a pair of smaller pulleys ( about 4" dia ) these are the clutch pulleys and pull the belt tight to make the mower drive oe go slack so the belt can slip to stop the mower driving.
This belt is the No1 suspect
