Hydro fill cap popped and sprayed oil

Deere 185. Hydro fill cap popped and sprayed hot hydro oil all over. ?? what happened ? thanks, geo

was it properly vented? was it over full of hydro oil?

Wasn't overfilled. Its run fine for 8 years. Wont move now, of course there's not enough hydro oil in it now. g

maybe someone will chime in that's experienced the same issue. i'm thinking it should be vented somehow. i could be wrong.

Last time it happened to me(new to me mower I forget to check out first) was water in the hydro oil.
