hustler Z mower under power

I have a hustler z mower. The mower is bogging down and miss firing. I tried it with deck off and on doesn't matter. I have changed the plugs and fuel filter and didn't help. had a technician look at it and cleaned the carburetor and didn't help. it doesn't do it all the time . sometime it starts after running awhile and other times it does as soon as you start it.

When it acts up again, yank one of the plug wires and see how it acts.

Then try it again, but with the other plug wire.

Tell us what you find.

If it just has only one plug wire, then post the engine's model numbers so we at least have a clue how to help you.

BTW, yanking a plug wire may be shocking, so use some insulated pliers, or your brother-in-law.

Well then that helps a lot.the one that you pulled the plug on and it kept running, that is the bad side. Pull the valve cover off next and tell us what you see.

Does this engine have 1 or 2 coils?

Fish what do you think? Could he have one bad coil? Or maybe a wire rubbing on something ?

i checked the wire to coil. no sign of wear

Did you check for spark?

I would swap the two and see if it changes the miss fire to the other side then I think we could maybe say that coil is bad.

okay. I will try that tomorrow or friday thanks. I will let you now what happens

Could be a bad coil or possibly the Y harness that goes to the coils which have diodes in them so the engine can be shut down from a single wire at the key switch. The diodes prevent the coils from back-feeding each other which would prevent the engine from being shut down electrically.
What engine do you have?

i swapped coils. now the other side does it, but doesn't always do it. i notice the coil that is bad the spark is weak and win you give it gas stays weak. i am pretty sure it is the coil but could it be the Y harness that goes to the coils which have diodes someone mentioned that earlier

If it was the y harness then the miss fire would have stayed on the same side.
I would replace that coil

Well, if you say you swapped and the other side does it sometimes now, then you have it narrowed to that. The coils need a good clean ground.

You did not swap the harness, did you? So go with what you have found.

You need to check for voltage on your kill circuit, that will damage and kill coils...
