My uncles Hustler Raptor 60" cut with Kawasaki engine won't start using the key but when I jumper across the 2 big post on the Solenoid it will crank that way. Does that mean the solenoid is bad? Thanks in advance for anyone who replies.

No, it doesn't mean that. Could be though. You need to check the safety switches and the ignition switch. There's a wire from the ignition to the solenoid that needs to get voltage when the key goes to start. Make sure you're engaging the seat switch when you check the ignition. If it gets power, but the starter doesn't turn, solenoid is suspect. If it doesn't, safety switches, fuse, or ignition switch. Provide model/serial number for the mower so we can look up the wiring diagram.

When you jump across the large terminals on the Solenoid , you're bypassing the solenoid and throwing direct voltage to the starter, in your case the starter is good , now work backwards from the small terminal from the key switch and check for power, if no power present, it's either a safety switch or the key switch or no power to the key switch , make sure you have 12 volts to the key switch first.
