I was driving forward and the mower just stopped moving forward. There was a small limb that run up under the mower that could have caused the issue?

I made sure the pin in back is released. I jacked up the mower. The drive belt is on both pulleys. The wheels spin freely in any position of the shifter. So I thought the transmission went out. But I grabbed the drive belt and pulled it along. It caused the wheels to turn. This seems to indicate the transmission is ok.

Does Anyone know if there is something that would tension the belt they could be the issue or any other suggestions

Jack it up and try the shifter and watch the drive belt / pullys to figure out where the problem is ,

One thing I see that I think is different the when I apply the brake the lock stick for the brake thrust outward towards the back of the mower. I Dont remember it doing that. This is my eldetly unckle’s mower so just not familiar with it!

That is normal.

Now you may need to remove the deck as you got make sure the belt is on all four pulleys. Engine, two idlers, and the transaxle pulley. Two these the belt can comes off and still look it is on as it is around the shafts instead being in the v of the pulleys.

Here is an update. It appears when you put it in forward or reverse the drive belt is not being tensioned.
I can use the belt on the oully stvgge transmission to move the mower forward or reverse. I can pull the belt on the front and the front pully wont move even if I try to turn it by hand.

So does anybody know what takes up the drive belt tension when shifted into gear?

The following circled assy. Locate on the RH side under the frame near the engine pulley. It is the one with the v-idler mounted to it.
