husqvarna yta22v46 transmission operation

i have a yta22v46 that has a general transmission and the problem is in the shifting into reverse and forward. the problem in order to get it to go into reverse you must stomp the reverse pedal and if you want to go forward after that you have to stomp the forward pedal have cleaned grass build up from under the plastic cover on the transmission, can not find any binding on linkages.
any clue or recommendation's will be tried in order to resolve this problem since mower belongs to 86 year old woman.

Spray all moving parts, linkages etc., with can of wd-40 or equivalent & take her for a ride.

There is tiny ball bearings the control rods and the rotating cam that can rust up and cause binding. Plus the moving plastic parts can wear a lot.
