Husqvarna M-ZT 52" vs Kubota Kammander ZG127 ?

Anybody know much about these units and can help me in a purchasing decision.
On my search to get a Zero Turn, never had one and want something to last a long time.
I have narrowed these down on paper and like qualities for each; but, don't know more than that on them.
Currently mowing 2.5 acres only a couple of real sloped spots near road and front of house, not big, lots of trees.
I am using a couple of cub-cadets, a real one from the past and one from homedepot 1550 that bogs down on the slight sloped yard.

Thanks for any input.
Charlie
PS: I do have a Compact Kubota B3200HSD (not for mowing)

I moved your thread to the Mower Buying & Pricing Forum since the Husqvarna is only one of the mowers you are looking at.
Good luck!

So how much is the Kubota ZG127? Another user had the Husqvarna M-ZT52(MSRP is $5499) and had only good things to say about it. The Kubota website compares the Kommander to the Toro Titan. I looked at the Titan MX5480 and it ran around $5300). The Kubota doesn't have a foldable ROPS like the Toro and Husqvarna and the Toro MX has a suspension seat. Aside from that the Kubota seems to be about the same quality as the other two.
P.S.
Another BIG plus for the Husqvarna is that it has the Commercial-rated HydroGear ZT-3400 trannies(where the other two have the ZT-3100)....and.....comes with a 1yr "Commercial" warranty which is always a good sign of durability!!

Thanks for the reply; but, I went ahead with the Kubota- ZG127S. The one dealer near me was more interested in talking me out of the Husky and into a SKAG.
The other dealer did not have the M-ZT52. It was a bit more for the Kubota ($5920) but I like the 4 yr warranty and have had great luck with my
Kubota B3200HSD compact tractor. The dealer was easy to work with and did not try to steer me off course. The ROPS on this Kommander does not look like it needs to be folded down to get into the garage or shed. May be a bit tall under some of my trees; but, with force me to trim them like I should.

Well, we all know that Kubota "don't make no junk" and the ZG127S will probably continue to confirm that!! My father-in-law has a $12K Kubota 72" Diesel Zero Turn and loves it of course. He has 5+ acres to mow, but probably could have gotten by with a 60" ZTR. But he always buys the biggest, most expensive anytime he buys something:0)
Since this line is relatively new for Kubota(their first "residential-oriented" ZTR), let us know what you think about it's performance after you have used it for a while. Enjoy!!!

Kubota Kammander ZG127-54 ... I have just purchased one...replacing my 14 year JD LX188. I mow about 2.5 acres.

Before you buy one make sure you have the TWO recalls done.

Since my experience has been short and I'm moving from that JD to a ZT I may not be the best person for a review right now...but however I am one of these guys that tend to be a slow burn when I make a purchase like this...I have been looking at ZT's for more than a year now. Last year I had my mind made up that I was going to get a Bad Boy this spring but when I came back to the same dealer and he showed me the Kubota, to me it was a very easy decision. I love the deck construction and lift system, the height adjustment is/was as easy as my LX188, the simplicity of the construction is better than the BB by a long shot. The BB seems more like a "contraption" with a lot of over building. I'm not saying the BB is a bad machine but I like simpler things. The seat is great, things just seem to fit and I find it to be very solid plus the crazy thing just looks better. To me it has more than enough power and it's surprisingly very fast. I thought the maintenance looked to be easy and the belt replacement is very simple.

THE ONLY THING at this point that is something to consider... is the 54" deck and it's weight, it takes a little extra strength with the lift pedal, like if you have a small wife she may have a little struggle. I bought the lift assist kit which is basically a small short cylinder like you would find on your rear hatch of your car. It does help BUT IT HAS TO BE ADJUSTED with care, too much
"assist" and you can't drop the deck. If you get the assist kit make sure you test the function of the deck BEFORE you take it home...like I didn't or the mechanic.

HTH's and if have any specific questions...just let me know.

Stay safe out there,

Mike

Duckman,
I hear you about the Bad Boys(I almost bought the 54" Outlaw). If you think lifting the deck on your Kubota is difficult, you should have tried the BB Outlaw(that massive 5gauge deck...yeah a full quarter inch thick...is EXTREMELY difficult to raise/lower). I had polio which affected my right leg and try as I could I simply could NOT lift that Bad Boy deck. I had decided that if I bought it I would set it and leave it. But on the subject of deck lifting, I would advise you to read your Kubota user manual "thoroughly" and discuss with your dealer. The reason I say this is that my Gravely Pro-Turn(yeah, I know it's a commercial model and may have a "different/better" deck lift/suspension system) has a "deck stabilizer springs" adustment on each side, that when you adjust the spring tension it (1)makes the deck easier to lift and (2)allows a little more deck "vibration" when you do that(the downside). But for your situation(the ease for your wife), if there is a similar adjustment for the tension springs on each side of the deck lift assembly for your Kubota, you may be able to improve the ease of adjusting your deck. It's worth looking into.

Thanks DJ...I wish there was more adjustment...there just isn't.

I just brought my mower back today and the deck lift still isn't right with the "lift assist"... tech told me it won't work correctly with the add-on attached. However the manager said that to let it break in a little and if I still wasn't happy he would call Kubota for me.

So if you are thinking of buying the lift assist...don't.

I still love the mower, glad I got it.

Yeah, when I was considering getting that Bad Boy Outlaw I had decided the only way I could use it was to "set it and forget it". When you think about it, how many times while mowing your yard do you raise/lower the deck??? Maybe when the wife is wanting to mow you can set the deck height and tell her to just "mow away":0)

How are you guys liking your new Kommander's? Any problems that you're finding with them? Also, what engines did your's come with? I'm demo'ing a 127S for the weekend and I'm still not sure if I'm going to take the plunge. Thanks. Grady

Hay Grady,

First of I love the mower...I'm glad I got it.

I got he the Kohler 27hp and 54" deck. To me it has plenty of power, even at full speed it makes one heck of a cut. I do suggest the upgraded seat...it's nice.

HOWEVER...

I just received another letter in the mail for another safety recall (actually it's the third recall) now. This one is the worst, saying to park my mower, don't use it and we don't have the parts to fix it AND HAVE NO DATE WHEN THEY WILL. They would even pay up to 150.00 to have my lawn done.

THAT I AM NOT PLEASED WITH.

I would still consider it just made sure the updates are done.

Mike, are they saying what the recall is for?

Grady,

Here's what the letter said dated 22APR13

Under some conditions the fuel tank develops a leak by HST belt or fan area Has something to do with that darn CARB crap and it's pressure control valve.

I'm still going to mow my lawn one more time....this is a pain for me as I do not have a trailer. Last time I had the last two done at the same time and flipped my friend a 20 to bowwow his trailer...

Duckman/Grady1,
I have since learned that the Kubota Kommander has a "belly gas tank", instead of it being on each side like most ZTR's. That's a REAL turn-off for me and sounds like the recall is related and they will continue to have gas tank related problems. I'll bet the second year model changes that design!!!!

DJ, I'm with ya on that. After alot of consideration over the weekend, I'm going to wait as well. I have never been one to buy 1st year model of anything. I'm hoping Kubota will make some changes for next years model. Maybe put their gas engines in the Kommanders? Or their own tranny's? A scaled down version of the ZD221? But of course that will come at a cost. I understand they came out with this model to compete with the BB's but I feel that they lowered their standards to do so.
Mike, please keep us updated on the recall. Grady

Grady...I would not steer away from the mower at all... ok wait but I don't think you will need to for a year. Gosh the four year warranty and if you have a good dealer should that give you some form of comfort along with being a Kubota. As far as the "belly tank" to me it is a great idea. One main reason for it is to lower the center of gravity...which is important when it comes to safety. I think everyone is dealing with this CARB crap, gosh look at eBay...you can sell your old type gas cans for good money now. What people have to do to get by the venting issues is not easy. I have a 12 old Stihl trimmer and had to get a new cap for it...had to drill my own vent holes in it just to get it run properly.

Wish you the best...if you have any questions about the mower feel free to PM me.

Stay safe.

Duckman/Grady1,

Well, as you can see in the Manufacturer Ratings by the Dealer Networks in the link below, Kubota is way above the "all manufacturer average" deservingly so. I hope in the effort to accomplish center of gravity, the belly tank and ensuing recalls do not disenchant those dealer ratings for this year's models. See link below:

http://www.msdeda.com/pdf/2013 Dealer Manufacturer Survey.pdf

Ooops..my bad, that Dealer rating for Kubota is for the AG(major tractor manufacturing) equipment not for OPE(Outdoor Power Equipment). The Kubota ZTR's may/may not be included in those statistics. Sorry if my comments were misleading!!!

I know this thread is old but it is relevant since these 2 models are what I am looking at now. We moved into this house that has 4 acres of land, mostly on inclines. I looked at both models and I can't make a decision yet. The Husky has an amazing deal where for $5350, I get the MZT52 and an edger, backpack blower, and a trimmer valued at $6400 total. It is a package for the commercial landscaper starting a new business. The Kubota ZG127S is $5770. The model comes with all of the recalls completed. The Kubota seems easier to use. The belts are easy to get at, nothing much to take off. The oil filter I can easily grab myself. There is an oil drain hose that lets you drain into a pan. The fuel tank is what I like. I don't have to worry about mowing on the side of a hill with a side-mounted fuel tank. Deck adjustments are as easy as a turn on the dial and then a press of your foot. I'll need my reading glasses to see what hole I'm trying to plug with the Husky. The Kubota has the Kohler Courage Pro and the Husky has the B&S Endurance Commercial and the 3400 transmission. The deck is thicker on the Kubota (10 vs 11 gauge). The bagger on the Kubota seems much easier to remove (wife wants an easy way to bag the Fall leaves). So has anything since last May changed your minds on which of the 2 is better?

Oh, I did like the Kubota service better than the other place that stocked the Husky (and 4 other vendors like Exmark, Stag, and some other I never heard of). The Kubota dealer is also 15 minutes from me where the Husky dealer is 30 to 40 minutes away. The Husky guy did say I can try out any of their rented models for free to help me make a decision.

Thanks,
Patrick

I have been in the same boat trying to make a decision. I thought the service on the Husky looked easier that some others. I got a price of $4850 on a MZT 52.

I'm not regretting the Husqvarna decision 1 iota.

I went ahead and purchased the Kubota. Essentially 2 reasons factored in my decision.

1. I must have a bagger since my wife doesn't want to bag another 300 x 30 gallon bags in the Fall. The Kubota bagger is $760 but the M-ZT52 was almost $2,000!! It is a powered system so it's a more commercial bagging system that requires adding to the pulley system of your deck. I just need a way to bag leaves in the Fall and the Kubota should be enough. I can always mulch what's left over if the bagger leaves any behind.

2. I thought the Kubota rep was better at selling mowers. He was always there and never pressured in buying anything. Said take a look around town, try a few models out, and ask questions. If the Kubota is the one I want, he'll be there to assist. The day we went to Kubota was on a Saturday and I had a question about slick hills and how the 127s could handle them. The store sits on top of a huge steep hill....probably 50 feet on a 30 degree incline. My hills aren't that steep but they are longer. He whips out the 127s and goes up and down the hill with no issues. Gave a few pointers on how to do that like cresting the hill first before making the turn and going past the bottom of the hill before turning around.

He'll deliver on Saturday and will take a look at our 4 acres and give me a few tips. The mower will be uncrated and setup so I'll just have to turn the key on Saturday.
