Husqvarna 128LD sputtering and dying with throttle

Hello all, I have had the trimmer (Husqvarana 128LD) for maybe 2 years, worked fine until last summer it starts fine, but with throttle it doesn't last long, it will rev up but the head does not spin fully (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't), and it will within 30 seconds sputter and die.

Upon googling, spark arrestor plate seemed common problem easy enough for me to do, when I removed the plate I was surprised to see small amounts of what look like oil, dark brown though. I cleaned off, cleaned the arrestor plate with a wire brush, and tried again first with and then also without the arrestor plate. Still didn't work and found more of the oil after running again. I have no idea if this is normal but since it's a fuel oil mix and not separate oil I suspect that it is not. I also removed spark plug, to see if it was wet as others mentioned that's an indication the engine is flooded. It wasn't wet and upon reinstallation it started back up. Not sure where to go next.

I'm not against going to a repair shop but with the current situation I'd prefer not to if I can do myself.

Goo in the muffler is not unusual
It is a sign of a failing ignition or more commonly an owner running a mix with too much oil.
Take the entire muffler off and have a look at the exhaust port chances are you will find it partially blocked with carbon which will need to be removed.

As for the head not spinning.
Could be the clutch or the gearbox if it is a strait shaft trimer.
A clutch is not a difficult repair anda gear box is an expensive repair.

Thanks, I will look into it. I followed the instructions for fuel/oil mix, do you recommend buying the pre-mixed instead?

Ok, checked the muffler and it nor the exhaust port didn't look bad. Think I found the problem, though. Poured remaining gas out to replace with premix and this popped out. No expert, but pretty sure that wasn't supposed to happen, right?

Nope it should be attached to the fuel pickup line. With it off the carburetor internal filter screen is probably clogged along with the fuel line not staying in the fuel.

So it's some sort of fuel filter? Is this something easy to fix or should I give up lol. Thanks for the help!

Yes it is a screen wire type inside the fuel pump side of the carburetor.

Not difficult , just fiddly and requires a high degree of cleanliness .
Firstly you will need to pull the long fuel line out of the tank using a hooked piece of wire.
Cut a 1/4" off the end and put the filter back on the line.
Next you have to remove the carburettor then pull it apart and either clean the screen or replace it.
When I pull a cube carb don I always replace the diaphragms &gaskets .
They and the filter screen will come in a kit.
The kit is about 2/3 the price of an aftermarket replacement carb so a lot just fit a new carb.
Decision is up to you .

Yes fuel filter and easy to fix,what kinda of 2 cycle oil do you buy

So I found a carburetor kit on Amazon that comes with everything I need (looks like it), I guess I'll just order it and see how it goes. As for the oil can't remember i think it was what came in the box or sold at Home Depot by the box. Seems like premix is a better option from what I've heard so ill probably buy that moving forward. Thanks for all the help!
