Ok. Complete novice here, so just the facts:
Engine will start and run AFTER removing the water pump and with the engine fully choked. Take the choke off and the engine dies.
It would not run, choked or not with the water pump attached.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any info.

I would say that the carb needs a good cleaning, but check on the price of a complete new carb before tearing into the carb, because sometimes the carb is cheaper than the kit to repair it.

WELCOME to LMF...

Fuel problem... either bad fuel OR something restricting the fuel flow... carb could be gummed up with old fuel... a good cleaning should have you back to running.
This is a fair youtube video on cleaning the carb... Honda GCV / GXV Engine Carburetor Cleaning Guide - YouTube

You do not necessarily need Honda specific tools OR cleaners, it is too bad that the person doing the video did Not speak while doing the cleaning, but watch it before starting the job.. and you will be okay. :smile:KennyV
