You can get a gas can or even just a nozzle that you can control the flow by twisting it. HD/Lowes or your local dealer has them.
And the Honda has the red plastic guard in the neck of the tank that is there as a guide for when to stop putting gas in. If you see the gas up to the level of the guard, you stop the gas.

I usually fill it up past that to get the most out of a tank.

I fill mine all the way up...usually when I screw the cap on a little bit seeps out and I wait for it to dry before mowing
