HRX217HYA Fuel Tank Overflow When Filling

I wish that the HRX217HYA had a sight window to indicate when the fuel tank is nearing full. I use a funnel and am as careful as I can be but I always overflow the fuel tank. Has anyone solved this problem?

I seldom overflow the fuel tank. I don't use a funnel, so I can see the gas coming up. Maybe you need a new gas can?

You have solved the problem but I think the solution is ill-suited for me because (1) I doubt that I can reliably pour directly into the tank and (2) I don't care to replace my gas can with the spring loaded cap.

Sometimes you can hear by the sound the gas makes when it's poured how high it is from the top.

Walmart sells some gas can spouts that are flexible and longer than the ones that come on the can. Then swing by Harbor Freight and get an LED head light for $2.99. You won't have a problem seeing the gas come up.

You can get a gas can or even just a nozzle that you can control the flow by twisting it. HD/Lowes or your local dealer has them.
And the Honda has the red plastic guard in the neck of the tank that is there as a guide for when to stop putting gas in. If you see the gas up to the level of the guard, you stop the gas.

Yeah, I have that thing. Here's the problemæ‚* use a funnel. It blocks the view into the tank. I pour gasoline slowly and stop often to see if gasoline is visible in the bottom of the funnel indicating that I should quit filling. But every time I fill it I have gasoline stacked up in the funnel neck indicating that the Honda tank is overfilled.

I have two Honda snow throwers and a Honda-engined power washer. I use the same funnel and gasoline can for each one. The lawn mower is the only one where I have a consistent overflow problem. A sight window (like my old John Deere silver deck) would solve the problem for $1.50. Then I could see the fuel level in the tank.

Agree. I have the same problem when I filter the gas with a "Mr. Funnel".

I usually fill it up past that to get the most out of a tank.

I fill mine all the way up...usually when I screw the cap on a little bit seeps out :) and I wait for it to dry before mowing
