Walk behind HRR2168VKA smart drive broken: self propel stopped working

Hi.

I was mowing and all of a sudden the forward motion of the mower stopped and the Smart Drive Control paddle felt all loose. It feels like maybe the cable broke or came disconnected.

My question is: Where and how do I look to see if the cable is broken?

Also, might it also be the drive shaft malfunctioning which could cause this problem?

I would check to see if the drive belt broke or came off. It runs from the mower blade shaft to the rear of the mower.
