I need to change oil in this unit and I can't for the life of me determine how to remove
the oil sump plug.

It's the nut(?) at the bottom of the sump.

3/8 Drive extension should fit the square hole to remove the drain plug. when you get the plug out it would be a good idea to screw a short piece of pipe in there with a cap on the end, to prevent oil from going all over the mower on the next oil change.

And remember to change the oil with the engine warm.

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

A 3/8 drive ratchet ( the thing you put a socket on)

The extension for use on a 3/8 ratchet wrench. the square end fits the square hole in the drain plug.

Thanks, my friend....it was a 1/4 incher that did it.

Sears gave no clue in the manual as to how to do it.
