Any way of turning a hydro gear into a posi? I hate the one tire fire when on un-even ground or loss of traction plowing snow. I was thinking about welding the spider gears like on trail rigs.

May be a stupid question but does your machine have 2 brake pedals, one for each rear wheel? On my JD 318, if I had one rear tire spinning, gently using the brake for the spinning tire would transfer power to the other tire.

When pushing snow, I always wished for a diff lock, even with chains, loaded tires, 50 pounds of wheel weights per wheel, and 100 pounds of barbell weights on the back, I always needed more traction than it had. Wet, heavy snow on the front blade would stop me dead as one tire spun.

As good as posi is, its horrible for tight turns, as mentioned - if it was welded, itd have to be super clean and welded solid- otherwise the welds could break and wreck the trans.

Better alternative would be a straight 1" or 1 1/4" axle - itd be a pain and some machine work needed, but you could mount a straight axle inside a trans - keep the unlocked trans for summer and swap the locked trans in for winter .

Or get a beater tractor and do the locker just for the winter plowing- depends what route youd want to go....
