I want to make a pull behind aerator , How long should the spikes be? I have a couple of pipe sections that are about 2" differance in diam. I plan on using nails in one and using a crack sealer between the two, with a rod running through the middle to hang weights on, all hooked to ends with rectractable wheels. here in west central Florida my grass is anything that will grow in such sandy soil but after many years I think it needs it. :confused3:Do you think it is worth it ? I planned on doing my neighbors lawns also.

What is the diam of the pipe your going to use?

You really need to use a drum.

Lets say your spikes are 4 inches long and your drum is less than a 2 foot diam your going to bend every spike.

Using nails is not your best bet unless the ground is soft and rock free. If your just going to use it one time it would be cheaper to just rent one for the day. And is better to get a core not a spike.

(( cowboy up and get over it ))

Spike is going to just compress your soil more. Core's bring soil to the surface so loosen up the ground soil. Which in turn aerates. What you are doing is stabbing holes in the ground that will close up in a day putting you back to square one.

I agree with carscw rent one. Homedepot is like 30 dollars for a few hours you only need to do it once a season maybe once every other season

Also you can buy pull behind aerators they make universal ones and I believe they are not even expensive.

I think I have seen them to buy, as the above comment states. Maybe that would be a good option? Or at least have a look
