how often does the PTO cable fail

So I have never replaced the PTO cable on my 2006 Bolens. They seem to be one of the parts that is typically on back order, meaning demand is high for them.

I have one on the way. Was curious just how often they get replaced. Since mine is 20 years old now, but maybe some issues I am having is from having a failing PTO cable.
