i picked up a 1980 21" 0292 and am thinking of using the motor on a go cart. carb and an expansion chamber would be in the works. most two strokes will scream if done right, anyone ever revved one of these motors up high?

Not sure but if you push the motor beyond it's limits it may not hold up long. Especially if you don't re-build it. You'll have to make an adapter plate to re-position the carb, as well as for the rectangular exhaust flange. Personally, I'd keep the old lawnboy intact. If you don't really want or need the mower, sell it and buy a good, used side-shaft Briggs. Good luck.
There are a lot of parts that will fly apart if you try to find out what is too much... Not handy being around bits & pieces shattering .... Be safe and get an engine & flywheel designed for the RPM you intend... :smile:KennyV
briggs flat heads red line at 3600 or so if i recal but i've scremed em way more. i like two strokes, just wanted to know if anyone has done this or blown one up.

A 3 hp B&S will go way faster than 3600 if fed 90% nitro methane but the exhaust valve melts in about 5 minutes. It was an old mower with little interest or resale value and my brother and I were destructive little buggers - learned from the best - our dad.
