How long does mulch stay on the grass?

I have read in this forum that some people leave the cut grass on the lawn as mulch. I try to imagine it and I have questions. Maybe you can help. Many thanks in advance.
1. Wouldn't cut grass make the lawn look less beautiful?
2. Would the cut grass "disappear" later (decompose, sink, i don't know)? If they will, how many days?

Using a side discharge mower deck with mulching blades, I mow in a clock wise direction to recut my previous pass clippings... This will cause all the grass to be chopped so small it vanishes as you cut... even when you are cutting heavy or taller lawn grass...

With a well designed deck and mulching blades, Regular cutting makes no difference where your discharge is directed because the clippings will be so small they will not show on the top of the lawn... :smile:KennyV

I don't have a mulching mower, but most of the time I can still leave my clippings. When the grass is particularly long or thick (after a vacation, or with lots of rain) the clippings will be long enough that they lay in piles and clumps. If I can still see the clumps from inside the next day I know to get out there with the rake so it doesn't kill the grass.

Using a side discharge mower deck with mulching blades . . .

Hello KennyV! Do we attach mulching blades to the same mower machine? Or are mulching blades attached to a different machine? I am trying to imagine how it looks like. You have a video I can watch?

I run Gator brand mulching blades on my 6 foot ZTR all the time...
There is no reason I can think of not to use a mulching blade always.
If I cut grass that is too tall to completely mulch with the first pass, it will blow out onto the un-cut grass and be re-cut when I come around the next pass... :smile:KennyV
