The bowl drain is small spring loaded plunger on the bottom of carb. By pressing on this plunger, water and dirt can be drained from the bowl.

I bought a repair kit for this drain and all that I received was a 3/32” dia. piece of paper to replace the one on the end of the plunger. How is this done?

The plunger may be removed by removing a brass retainer and a spring but I was not smart enough how to do this. It was like a Chinese puzzle!

The 5239 carbs I’ve looked at use a plastic carb bottom. You have have a metal Tecumseh carb. To remove this drain you must hold the bottom of the bowl so you can hold the drain in place with your finger. With a finger on your other hand push up on the retainer depressing the spring. When you do this you will that the retainer has a slot and larger hole. Push the retainer over to the large hole and it should pop off.
