Starting with the easiest possibilities...
Is it getting good unrestricted air flow through the cooling fins on the engine, are Any air baffles missing or blocked? It is after all an Air cooled engine. Grass can plug up & block air flow. Resulting in excess heat that will have a direct effect on fuel air mix as it heats... also excess heat will thin engine oils allowing leakage around seals...
What type and weight engine oil are you using? Run a good Multiviscosity Synthetic engine oil, it will deal with extreme heat and oil thinning... a Very good synthetic is Rotella T6, I run it in Every engine I have... :smile:KennyV

i use casterol 10w-30 forvthe past 10 yrs.the air flow doesn't seem to be blocked anywhere. could there be another problem? i will try the synthetic oil.

have you checked the valve covers? for blockage?crankcase pressure caused this or maybe a seal just failed.

I have a 720K also that is a 1995 or maybe 96 model that has at least 1800 hours on it. It has a 20HP Kholer. It is leaking engine oil from somewhere; looks like the top of motor but hard to tell.

Anyway, mine also loses power after maybe a 1/2 hour to 1 hour of mowing. I was thinking maybe it was the drive motors or something, but since the oil is escaping maybe that is the issue. Sometimes when I start it I can tell it is struggling to run and if I pull one of the plugs it will have crud all over it; when I clean it off it runs fine but is still slow. WTH
