Compare GXV140 and GXV 160 you have difference 5HP and 5.5 HP and that was the spec more than 10 years ago .Now they dont made GXV 140 any more and look at the spec of GXV 160 on Honda now you will find out it have only 4.3 HP that because they try to reduce pollution ,lately HRC216 not for sale in CA anymore and the spec go back to 5.5 HP at 3600 rpm . To be honest I'm using HR215 and HR 195 for long time at close to 4000 rpm with out any problem

I have an HRC216K3 (don't have experience with the 215's) and kinda surprised by the 4.3hp rating. I thought that the '21' in 216 stood for 21" cut and the 6 stood for 6HP. Since the engine design of the gxv160 has not changed, perhaps the carburetor was the culprit? Going to the parts look up on the Honda site:
216K1/ 215 offered #62, #65, #68 and pilot jet #40
216K2 main jet versions #60, #62, #65 pilot jet #35
216K3 (last version available) main jet versions #60,#62, #65 and pilot jet #40

My K3 was not a California model (it's peppered with 'Not for use in California' stickers all over it). Interestingly the shop manual for the K3 clearly states #68 main jet replacement for the carb. I've never taken the carburetor off, so I'm not sure what size main jet it came with.

Could going from #68 -> #65 main jet result in significant power loss? I have no idea.

Well, its been a while since I have been back here but I couldn't resist any longer (despite local dealer having a decent amount of HRC216's in stock). Pulled the trigger and brought her home on the first day of summer. Naturally the name of this mower is now referred to as "Summer". Haven't even run it for more than 5 minutes but plan to do a engine break in for 30 minutes, oil change, 30 minutes again but mowing a lawn and then oil change and then after 5 hours oil change again. I would expect this mower to last me until I'm in my grave.
