Honda HRX217VKA: Versamow with wet grass

I am really not a shill for Honda:smile: I just happen to love this mower in the month I've had it. I live near Atlanta, and it has been an extremely wet summer. It seems like it rains every day.

Mowing wet grass and trying to mulch won't work without leaving clumps and bogging down the mower. This applies to my HRX, and my old Toro 20056.
With the Toro, and wet grass, all you could do was bag. I just can't bag 6000 sq feet of bermuda.

What I did today, was set the Versamower knob to the 4th notch and put the bag on. Outstanding results: very, very little quarter size clumps fell from the deck, and I used about 2.5 catchers full, which I could easily dispose of. When I got through, I set the Versamow to bag, and picked up the few clumps.
Grass looks great.

I do miss the BBC of the Toro, and probably should have got it on the Honda. When you stop to empty the bag, there will be a large amount of grass that will fall from the deck. I guess the suction keeps the clippings up until you shut it off. Just change the bag in an area where the clippings will not be on the lawn.

It took about 5 minutes with a garden hose to clean the underside of the deck. The clippings seem to come off easier from the Honda vs. the AL Toro deck.

So, again, this mower continues to impress.

I mow lawns at 7:30 in the morning and it usually won't clump. I don't do the lawns that are like 8 inches tall, but I will cut off a decent amount. I love the BBC on my mower! And yeah the grass falls off the deck when I stop the blades on mine, too, if it's wet. That's good experience with the VersaMow on half-bag, half-mulch...the manual mentions that, but I never did it.

Since you have bbc now do you still push your mower or have it self drive?

When I'm pushing it to the houses? I still push it (with the mower off) so I don't waste gas or put more hours on the transmission. I use the BBC mainly when I need to stop and move something in the yard, or emptying the bag (when I actually bag), or when I'm done the lawn and getting the mower from the backyard to the front yard, or if I want to stop and take a picture of the lawn.
