Honda hrx2174vka won't shut off

Only way I can get it to shut off is turning the petcock off and letting it run out of fuel. When I push forward where the cable connects to the carb linkage, the rpms will come down but it's still not enough to kill the motor. Tried lubing the cable with penetrating oil to no avail.

Either the kill switch is not functioning or the wire between the kill switch & the magneto is faulty/ fallen off
At this time of year, chewed through by mice would be high on the suspect list
Assuming that the engines on yours are the same as ours the throttle lever will work a microswitch sort of behind the air filter housing and that has a single wire going up to the magneto.
The wire is open circuit for running ad ground to turn the engine off .

Thanks for the reply. Almost bought a new brake? cable. Will check out the wire between the kill switch and magneto.
