Howdy, I'm hoping somebody here can help sanity check my plan, as I'm a bit confused on crankshaft size/tapping requirements...

I was gifted an old Honda HRX2172HXA (Serial #: MAGA-1645051).

I loved the thing. All the mechanical parts are working great, but the engine quit and won't pull anymore. I think it's possible that I got water in it via the air filter after a water hose bath. My engine repair guy simply says it's "broken in the cylinder". It seems this mower would cost about $1000 to replace, so I'm looking to see if an engine replacement is economically feasible.

The original motor is stamped 186 cubic cm, and has a serial number of GJAAA-2224594 MU2(1?).

1) I believe this is a suitable replacement motor, at about $200. However, I note that it's a 7/8" x 2" vertical shaft, untapped:

2) Is this the correct motor with the correct shaft dimensions?

3) Based on another thread here on this forum, it sounds like the shaft can be tapped. I have access to a machinist. What size of drill and tap would be needed to allow it accept the blades, 10X24 at 2" deep?

4) Alternatively, would it make more sense to replace the crankshaft on a new motor, as discussed here. If so, which?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Don't jump to conclusions, pick up these items at Auto Parts Store: https://www.walmart.com/ip/B-12-FUE...DXZNTUP5ehxivtV29vx2EAc_3STlfhPUaApkqEALw_wcB
Drain all water, gas, & oil from engine including gas tank, replace spark plug, air & gas filters after cleaning engine, add Berrymans to gas tank per instructions on bottle, Marvel Mystery Oil to engine sump & inside spark plug hole & slosh it around & let it sit overnight. "Do Not Try To Start", if you leave it outside cover with a tarp. Add fresh octane gas & oil to engine, give her a try. Use Honda OEM Parts.
