Howdy, I'm hoping somebody here can help sanity check my plan, as I'm a bit confused on crankshaft size/tapping requirements...
I was gifted an old Honda HRX2172HXA (Serial #: MAGA-1645051).
I loved the thing. All the mechanical parts are working great, but the engine quit and won't pull anymore. I think it's possible that I got water in it via the air filter after a water hose bath. My engine repair guy simply says it's "broken in the cylinder". It seems this mower would cost about $1000 to replace, so I'm looking to see if an engine replacement is economically feasible.
The original motor is stamped 186 cubic cm, and has a serial number of GJAAA-2224594 MU2(1?).
1) I believe this is a suitable replacement motor, at about $200. However, I note that it's a 7/8" x 2" vertical shaft, untapped:

2) Is this the correct motor with the correct shaft dimensions?
3) Based on another thread here on this forum, it sounds like the shaft can be tapped. I have access to a machinist. What size of drill and tap would be needed to allow it accept the blades, 10X24 at 2" deep?
Hello Guys! I live in western Washington state and just got a new 160 engine to replace the old briggs on the mower. The deck is fine and the new Honda looks like a nice fit. My question is, what kind of an adapter will I need for the 7/8" keyed shaft...and more importantly, it looks like I'll...

4) Alternatively, would it make more sense to replace the crankshaft on a new motor, as discussed here. If so, which?
Hi, So my wife tried to cut through a 2” metal pipe with our Honda HRX 217 mower, resulting in a bent crankshaft. I’ve got the crankshaft part number down to 2 options, 06131-Z8D-W50 or 13311-Z8D-960, but can’t figure out which it is or if there’s a difference. Attached is a pic of the serial...

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
