Honda HRR216K9VKA starts using fuel starter but soon dies

I thought dirt or a piece of grass got into the tank . I cleaned the tank, fuel lines and cleaned the carb (including jets). Fuel runs freely to the carb but still would not start. I then replaced the carb, yet problem exists.
It only starts when spraying starter into the carb.
I was wondering if it could be a broken sensor wire, if one exists.
Any ideas ?

Check that the choke fully closes . if not ;oosen the cable anchor & adjust it .
If problem still persists , check the valve lash.
To verify that the carb is working slide it off the studs but leave the fuel line in place
Turn it sideways & blow air through it while opening & closing the throttle butterfly
You should be able to see the fuel / air mix coming out the back.
Don't smoke

Thanks for the input.
I discovered the problem and an easy fix. It was a bad thermo wax assy.
