what do you mean "If I do not connect the hydro, it becomes a push mower and it can go backwards."? are you disconnecting the cable? or not in gear? may check fluid level. may need to replace cable. boats.net and others have schematics and parts.

if I do not insert the spindle into the connection (between the motor and transmission, there is a tube and within that tube, there is a male connection from the transmission that fits inside the part from the motor), that’s when it becomes a push mower. I’m not disconnecting the cable. I have already added fluid. I’ll check boats.net as I need the cable part no. I believe it’s the cable, but just not sure. Attached is a picture of the cable connection to transmission. This connection does not move.

looks like the control arm #7 in picture. https://www.boats.net/catalog/honda/lawn-mowers/hr215k1-hxa-vin-mzam-6200001/hxa-hma-transmission not talking about the joint? https://www.boats.net/catalog/honda/lawn-mowers/hr215k1-hxa-vin-mzam-6200001/joint-sxa-sma-hxa-hma if control arm not moving , either cable or trans. disconnect and see if cable moves freely. if not replace. if control arm does not move, may be a problem, ie bad trans.
Ok, that sounds like a great way to check. Thanks for the reply and help.
