And that is why it so important to have the model and serial numbers for engines and equipment handy. And back to the ignition system changeover. That change also took place at the same time as the redesign of the Honda V-twin. Which has other changes that make direct replacement even with a newer engine almost impossible. The exhaust from the old style engine will not fit the new style engine either because with the redesign they went to a semi-hemi head design that change the angle of the exhaust mounting flanges.Honda just loves to play games with the small engines. Their old ignition modules needed to be grounded to kill the engine, new ignition modules need to be grounded to run. Yeah I found out the hard way.
