Honda gcv160 backfiring through the carb

Hello everyone

I have a Honda gcv160 that is backfiring through the carb. I've been trying to get it started. When I go to start and it backfires through the carburetor. Any help is appreciated. Carburetor is brand new and it has fresh fuel. Thank you

engine may be out of time, check flywheel key for being sheared.

regular right hand threads, possibly metric.

I had a GCV160 come in with that issue and it turned out the intake valve was sticking open. Definitely check the flywheel key first though.

It's kind of funny , I just fixed a Echo blower that the flywheel key was Sheard. Had to replace the whole flywheel cuz the key is part of the flywheel. I'll pull the flywheel off tomorrow. Is the flywheel bolt regular threads or is it reverse threads? Thanks for any help
