Honda belt slip

My 11 month old Honda HRR2168VKA mower made a screeching noise when engaging self propel, then shortly after the self propel was not working. Examined the underside & discovered the belt was intact, but had slipped off the pulley. Since mower is still under warranty, took it to the store where purchased. Backlog of repairs so it could be up to two weeks to fix & return. Is this common with this mower? Is the transmission not good on this model? I researched new mowers & it came down to Honda or Toro. Hopefully this is a one-time incident & I won't regret buying this mower.

The belt used on that model is under constant tension between the engine and transmission. Generally, if it pops off, it's due to a belt guard out of position or debris/sticks causing it to jump off. That specific design has been in use for many years by Honda. The transmission itself is not prone to any particular problems, and you should get a long service life once repaired / adjusted.

Spring is a very busy time of year, thus most dealers have a backlog of service customers. Ironically, a very busy mower shop where my son was working asked him to put in more hours, but he could not because of his school schedule, so they fired him and hired a guy who could give them 40+ hours a week. :frown:

Since the shop has such a long wait, will you be putting the belt back on yourself, or did you leave it for the shop to do?

Same thing happened here after about four hours of use. I took it to the service dealer. Only six months old. The dealer said Honda would not cover the problem under warranty. Cost me $51 plus some change. I bought a shop Manual because if you read the owners manual most of the problems you will have are not covered. tee3
