Hi all , I have this 8 horse Tecumseh on a 1977 Ariens 32 inch snow blower. My dad got it when I was 18 and I'm still using it at 65.
What I would like to do is put heated grips and maybe a light on this machine. I currently have points and condenser on this engine.
If it can be done, I'm sure I will need a new Fly Wheel, Alternator and Coil Pack If it will even be able to bolt on to the block. Would it be cheaper to put a well equipped Predator engine on if one will match up? Or should I just get a good pair of gloves and a magnetic light from HF.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks , Matt.

To upgrade this unit you would need to find an engine with at least a 10 Amp charging system. Your idea is good but unless you have excess $$$$ the unit is not worth it. I suggest you get a pair of heated gloves and the brightest headlamp you can find. Use the balance of your $$$ and have a strong hot toddy when you’re done blowing.

Maybe one alternative is\are "mittens?!?!" that they use in Taiwan on scooter handles\controls, being they ride year round???

Or else, if you can tap the heat from the exhaust to heat the handle....
