HL100 question

I recently acquired an HL100 that has a weed trimmer head on it. Seems to run just fine as a weed trimmer but my understanding is this model number is a long reach hedge trimmer.
Is it ok and or safe to use this as a weed trimmer? If so, what about using it with the grass cutting blade?
 
It is basically a FS100, with a hedge trimmer attachment, the only main difference is the ignition. So it may not rev as high.
I use the chainsaw head on my FS90 with great results, just make sure it has the steel shaft, not the flexible one.
 
Thanks for the info. For my own edification, by ignition, do you mean the coil is what determines the RPMs? I will make sure it is a steel shaft.
