I just joined this site. Don't know how to maneuver the site yet.
I do have a question: I have a Troy-Bilt auto drive lawn tractor
Super Bronco (model J609 & T609)
The problem is that after replacing the drive belt, the motor stops when
I try to engage the PTO lever. Can anyone help me?

Is the belt routed correctly?
Do the blades turn freely?... when you engage the PTO, they must, or it will kill your engine. Grass clogged under the deck.

There are different names for the belts and people call them the wrong name some times.

Some mowers have a belt that is tight all the time...that one drives the mower when you push a pedal.
Some have a belt that has an idler that gets tight when you shift into gear.
Some mowers have three belts, some two, maybe other numbers.
We need to be sure what you are talking about.

If the engine cuts out stone dead before the blades actually engage then you have damaged one of the safety switches when you did the belts.

The mower has a safety facility which cuts out the engine if you get off the seat with the blade running
The seat switch is also connected to the brake switch which cuts out the engine if you get off without parking brake on.
