Hi Slomo,We would think that one of these new mega dollar mower companies would make a bullet proof mower like the "old" Snappers for example.
I honestly can't remember the last time my Snapper RER broke down. Only thing that comes to mind is it ran out of gas cutting the front yard a couple years ago.
I inherited a 1988 8-HP Snapper RER series 6 a few years back and I got it up and running basically for nostalgic purposes, but that is one tough "bulldog" of a mower. It needed new tires, a carburetor and a new blade spindle assembly.
Now I only use it a couple of times a year to exercise it. It has a 30-inch-high vacuum deck and that means lots of dust getting blown around when I get into sandy areas.
What I like most is that it is simple to work on and has a minimal simple electrical setup with a pull start.
