Help with lawn mower.

I have a problem. My little 5 HP mower will not stay started. That is when I pull the rope it kicks and then dies. In fact it will do it about 20 times until it will stay started. I changed the air filter and it did not help. I am sure it is something simple as it will run, eventually.

Hopefully that's the mower you're talking about!

Slip off the flywheel nut and quickly check that the keyway slot is dead square.
If it is not then you have sheared the key and the timing is wrong.

It is a craftsman mower. after many short starts it runs and will crank easily until it sits for the next mowing time.
