Help with Honda HRR-Series Research

Honda engineering is dong some service research on certain mowers. I'd like your help, if you meet the following three conditions:

(1) The mower must be an HRR216VKA or HRR216PKA.
(2) The serial number (on the back edge of the mower deck) must be higher than MZCG-8400000.
(3) Had some hard-to-start or won't-start issues (past or current).

If you own a mower that meets all (1), (2) and (3) conditions, I'd like to contact you further with a few more questions. Please leave me a Private Message with your serial number "MZCG-84xxxxx" and a point of contact (email, phone number, or mailing address).

I thank you and Honda thanks you for any help you can provide.

I don't have a Honda HRR series mower, but I do have a different brand that uses the same Honda GCV160 motor. The only difference is that my mower has the ARCS (auto return choke system), whereas the HRR mowers have a fully automatic choke. The only problem I have encountered with my mower is restarting it if I shut it down immediately after starting it up before it has a chance to fully warm up. In this case it won't start with either no choke or full choke, and I have to simulate partial choke by setting the choke on full and then waiting about 2 seconds before I pull the starter cord after pulling the safety lever that releases the choke. I read something in the Honda HRR series manual that states that the mower should be allowed to run for at least 3 minutes after a cold start before shutting down to facilitate a restart. IOW, the auto choke does not work properly unless the engine is either cold or fully warmed up. Frankly, I prefer fully manual chokes or enricheners, which are foolproof and not difficult to use. IDK if the specific problem you are researching is in any way related to the auto choke on the HRR mowers, but I would not be surprised if it were.

The engineers are specifically looking for mowers with ACS (automatic choke system). I'll pass on your comments about the ARCS; thanks!

I have a Honda HRR216, but not that model. Unfortunately (for you), mine has been very reliable when starting. It's a good thing for me, though!!

Mine is MZCG-8492300 but it is a HRR2168VYA, haven't had much problems with starting. But two days ago it stopped while mowing and I haven't been able to restart it, the pull rope will not spin the engine to start. Haven't taken it in yet but trying to see if anyone else has had this problem. Wondering if it is related to a safety device, but taking off the pull rope housing, the pull rope turns freely. I can turn the top of the engine with a break-over bar in the notches and the blade turns. Replaced the assembly and still haven't been able to get it to turn. Don't know if this helps with the research but that is what I'm experiancing, I've had it for 41 months so it is out of the 36 month warranty period.
