Hello all. I'm brand new to the forum. I have a 2017 Pro Turn 260 (992267)with the ZT740 kohler. Bought the unit with 104 hrs on it. Sitting right at 1700 hrs now. Mowing 2 weeks ago and she died. Tried starting back and had no compression. After checking the obvious places I broke the engine down to find a broke cam gear ?. Now with engine off and tore down I'm going to rebuild it, but my question is... is there anyone on here that can tell me of a higher horsepower engine that will match up fairly seamlessly? The 25 confidant just doesn't have enough juice for my 2 week yards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Appears the confidant has a 1-1/8" diameter x 4.36" length Crankshaft, Tapped 7/16"-20
Small Engine Wharehouse CLICK HERE
all the shaft lengths on these are 4 9/32", 4 3/8" 4 5/16" and 4"
i guess measure yours and see...

alright so it's a 4 3/8" length,
here's 2 pages of refined results to the shaft length now, http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com...Shafts"&fq=(Shaft_Size_s:"1-1/8\"Dx4-3/8\"L")

So the ECV749 3027 would be perfect but my unit is NOT fuel injected. Would it be possible to use my electric setup on that engine?

600 hours a year for 2 yards, what are they Yankee Stadium ?
A bigger motor will not make the mower go 1 foot a hour faster and 27 Hp should be well & truley enough to run a 60" deck .
What exactly are you mowing and what is your set up ?
Got a horrible feeling that the Kohler has been running on one cylinder or doing something terribly wrong if you feel it is under powered.
HAd one customer who wanted a bigger engine because his mower was "underpowered"
Turns out it was the combination of deck & blades .
HE was running high lift gators in a shallow deck with a mulching plug
Changed to low lifts & problem was solved .
And this was a Great Dane 61" deck & 18 Hp Kohler Command

Not unless you rewired the mower to accomodate the fuel injection electronics.
From What I have been led to believe anything over 30Hp has to be fuel injected to comply with pollution regulations.

I do not want more speed. That's not the issue. I mow an average of 85 to 90 yards a week. Several 14 to 15 hour days. So the hours do rack up. I live in Tennessee my 2 week yards bog the Kohler. it's a 25hp zt 740 confidant. I do run high lift scag blades. Not gators. X factor 2 deck. Gravely pro turn 260. Thank you for your reply.

I think you miss read my post. 2 week yards not 2 yards lol

Gotch ya.
So it is the 2 week old , thus longer & thicker grass that is overwhelming the deck capacity & bogging down the engine forcing you to mow slowly
And at 90 mows a week I can see why you don't have the time to mow slow .
A PIA but it might be worth trying low lifts on these yards
I gather you regularly swap the blunt blades for sharp ones.
A battery impact should allow a quick change in a couple of minutes .
If it is the volume of grass overwhelming the capacity of the deck then all a bigger engine will do is break belts
The landlord got a Kubota F2440D with a 28Hp 3 cylinder diesel donk, but it does not cut the 2' tall tussock grass any faster than the Cub Cadet 2248 did ground speed wise.
However at 72" it does cut the mowing time in 1/2
The Kubota could cut faster, but it just can't discharge the clippings
We are toying with dropping the blades a bit to see if we can increase the volume of the deck.

I see. I do carry a cordless 1/2 dewalt impact with me and change blades at least 3 times a week. I've thought about getting longer spindle/blade bolts and placing washers to lower the blades as well. I just thought the extra hp would help some. They offered a 27 on that same unit. I bought it off an individual. I've got the engine tore down. Any simple upgrades I could do the internals?

i would also contact Briggs and Kawasaki along with those crank shaft specs ( 1 1/8" D x 4 3/8 L) and see if they have any compatible models cheaper.
Does the mower have an electric PTO clutch?

Yes it does.
Muffler issues are what I'm going to run into with Kawasaki and vanguard

Here's the ole girl. Love the mower in ideal cutting situations just wish there was a simple solution for the high grass. It clumps pretty bad if the grass is the least bit wet as well

Hells bells it does really well on that slope.
You could try enlarging the discharge hole in the deck.
Being fabricated if it don't work you can always weld it back up again .
problem comes with the new "universal decks "
Very few mowers now offer dedicated mowing , throwing & mulching decks.\
Down here I think only Walker has all 3 types of decks and then they are not available in all sizes.
Dropping the blades should work .
Get a big stack of washers then try one at a time till it starts blowing clippings out the side on your home lawn then see how it goes on the job.
Fabricated decks have troubles with airflow patterns under the deck because you can't get the funnel effect same as you can on a pressed deck .

And nice job on that lawn.
Not a fan of striping but I can recognise a good job just the same.

I myself caught what you meant right off, I like a mower powerful enough to mow a 2 to 2 1/2 week ( taller grass) yard also. I don't run a Golf coarse where I have to keep it neatly manicured .
