Help with B&S Model Number for spare parts

Hi,

I have a Husqvarna push lawn mower with a B&S 6.5HP engine. Below are photos of the tags with identifying information:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/RMgilAYcLXc8lwum2

Mower

Model#: 917.375351
S/N: 030705M 003268

Engine

Family: SBSXS.1901VH
e11*9768SA*2002/88*0296*0

I recently had a problem with the mower not being able to start. I followed some links to youtube videos referenced in this forum, did some carb cleaning, and the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks Forum!

My question is, given the information above, what numbers do I use to reference the engine model if I want to buy spare parts for the mower, for example in the B&S repair parts locator: https://shop.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/repair-parts?

Also, I may want to buy a new carb entirely since they are about $15 on Amazon, for example this one. [Even though the problem went away, the mower is 10+ yrs old and could use new gaskets and seals anyway, so why not spend a few more $$ and get the whole carb]. What engine model number do I reference?

Many thanks.

Those numbers don't help for briggs. You need to get them from the muffler side on the metal under the plastic cosmetic cover.

I just made this video a few days ago. Please do not buy a aftermarket carb.. This is a 4 part video. I don't make many mower vids mostly gardening and cooking. I love the old vintage mowers such as the Tom Boys made in Missouri for Graveyards and small yards. They are bullet proof and had aluminum decks.

Here is the link for the Tom Boy

Hope you enjoy it ~!~!

Thanks for the feedback. I will take a look at the videos.

I looked pretty hard to find a number by the muffler or above the spark plug, as described on the B&S website, but could not find one. I'll look again tonight, maybe take some pictures if I still can't locate the number.

Thanks again.

If it is a Briggs from the factory in China then the number will be sideways electro etched into the crank case to the rear of the carb,

Economics will mean that at some point all of the smaller Briggs engines will come from the Chinese factory.
Nearly all of the walk behinds we get here with Briggs engines are Chinese made engines.

we get most of what you reject.
Any time a model gets banned or major modificatios are mandated they just ship em down here.
Locally assembled mowers all have Chinese Briggs in them.
Fully imported can be either USA or Chinese.
They took me by surprise the first time one came into the shop.
I am not an authorised B & S workshop because I do not have a retail presence and hold $ 25,000 in Briggs stock.

I am an Easty not far from Warragamba Dam which is Sydneys main water supply.

In Briggs stock you mean parts or actually investing in stock for Briggs ?

Parts or whole goods.
My entire parts bill runs around $ 20,000 p/a and of that about $ 3,000 would be Briggs parts so it is a lot of dead inventory.
Even worse is it is a lot of space I don't have.
Kohler were about the same , from memory they wanted closer to $ 30,000.
Kawasaki OTOH is supplied through all 3 of my regular wholesalers so it is self defeating for both Briggs & Kohler.
If I don't have a surplus engine in stock, I fit a Kawasaki as they are cheaper & have a 3 year domestic & 1 year commercial warranty

Back in 1980 they wanted 10 grand in parts and engines for our shop. When my buddy wanted to add the Simplicity tractor line to the shop they wanted 20 grand in Tractors. Simplicity bought out the Allis Chalmers lawn mower section out back in the the early 80's. Very well built mowers just like Allis Chalmers except a different name on the hood. So I know what you mean by extra inventory on certain parts. Most of them are obsolete now and can go for a pretty penny on E Bay and Amazon because not even aftermarket places make or can get them anymore..........

For Example My buddy had a Mculloch dealership back in the 70's and early 80's He has a whole box 2 ft. by 3 ft. with chainsaw parts in it. Mostly big saw stuff.

I need to do a inventory and market that stuff one day. Every thing is in the original packs and labeled.

Leaving the OP a bit behind here but Mc McCulloch parts would be a bit golden now days.
I am being force to go the Randys used parts to get McCulloch saw parts.
For some reason McCulloch owners seem be desperate to have their old saws fixed
I see this a lot more than other brands.
I now have 6 Shindawa pro level saws, 3 waiting for parts I took as contra payments for fixing various bottom end domestic saws
on the various chain saw forums I haunt people are always searching for McCulloch parts so if he logs onto any of them letting them know hw has pro parts he will become a God overnight.

Hey Boo,

Thanks for the video. You were right - that's exactly where the number was. Had looked at that little piece several times but couldn't see the stamping due to general grime. Cleaned it and found this number (think I read it right):

123K02 0498 E1 05020 FB

From a quick search, looks like the 123K02 0498 E1 is the engine model and I can find spare parts on the B&S website. So far, mower is running ok, so hope I won't need any, but may end up doing an overhaul at some point.

Thanks again.
