Today my neighbor, who just lost her husband, asked me if I would cut her grass for her. I went over and got her lawn mower out of the garage. I've never seen this type of engine before. It is a Poulan Pro 22". On the engine shroud it says "Intek Premium Plus" at 7 HP. I had a heck of a time getting it started. On the side there is a red slide lever connected to the carb as best as I could see without taking the top off. Then on the top just above that is a little dial but I don't know what it does or where to set it as there are no markings on it. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've looked for a users manual using the model number 961140016 00 but to no avail. I looked for some numbers in the engine shroud but they are rusted and can't make them out I did figure out after finally getting it started that the red lever on the side controls the speed. Does that lever also set the choke? Does the little dial above the lever on the shroud set the choke? Does it even need to be choked or have a choke? My thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not familiar with pollen but Intek is a brigs and Stratton motor. Without seeing it I'm guessing the dial is a fuel shut off valve. Since you made no mention of a primer bulb (which I'd except it to have) I'd say move the slide to wide open .If its not been used in a long period of time a coke bottel cap of gas poured into the top of the carb should get it to run. I'm not a mechanic so others will add more. This is what I do in the spring after storage of my equipment.

That dial as you turn it has six clicks from one side to the other. It looks to be right above the carb. I'll just have to take off the shroud and have a look. Hate to do that with someone else's mower that I'm not familiar with.

Just take the air filter off and then observe what is going on in the carb as to choke position etc.

That's what I plan on doing. I can figure it out from there. Looks like the mower has some age on it. BTY. I tried translating the above post and it said it was Vietnamese.

yes a hacker got into the site a while back.
They can post 40 or so a day, a right royal PIA but that is what happens with poverty, people do anything to feed & cloth their children, wouldn't you ?
They will get paid every time some one clicks through

Update: I took off the cover over the carb. The dial operates the choke plate. The red lever is the throttle. Knowing that made it a whole heck of lot easier to start. Removed the blade and sharpened it. Starts and runs smooth. It's a very quiet mower. So....problem solved.
