I have a gravely zt1640 with a briggs and Stratton intek motor. It runs great and does not smoke. Occasionally it will stall like it is starving for fuel. After a restart it again runs fine. I notice that the fuel pump is dripping oil, is this a serious problem and is this the cause of the engine stalling. Already replaced oil, plug, fuel and oil filter, fuel pump and cleaned the carb and tanks. Any suggestions?

The first thing I would check is the leaking fuel pump that you replaced.

I changed the fuel pump trying to fix the oil problem. The new pump has the same problem. The oil is coming from the pulse line. Do I have too much crank case pressure or valve problems? What type of oil should I be using?

Find the model and code numbers on the engine and post them. Maybe me or some others can chime in and help. I don't see how the fuel pump is leaking oil, but there again, post the model numbers

I will post the model number later tonight. The fuel pump uses pulse pressure from the crank case to operate.

Model. 31h7770110. Type E1. Code. 030514za. Did some more trouble shooting. When the oil starts dripping from the screen on the fuel pump it stalls. Also when the engine is running at half throttle and the cap for the oil dip stick loosened it nearly flys off. I was told that this is caused by crank case pressure which is also causing the fuel pump to fill with oil from the pressure.

I have had this before and if i remember right i was a blown head gasket that was the problem.
The gasket blows between the cylinder and valve chest.

Is your air filter full of oil? Yes is the signs of head gasket.
