We are thinking about purchasing a zero turn to go along with our ancient John Deere lawn tractor. Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable, low maintenance, easily serviceable brand? We have 3 acres, lots of trees and mow our ditches.

We can throw a bunch of models at you to consider, but I'm sure your wallet has a limit. Please give us a budget, so that we won't put you in the poor house, because we will.:laughing:

With the 3 acres usage, you may find it difficult to find something in a high-end Residential or low-end Commercial ZTR for $4,000 with any size deck. Most of the ZTR's in the $3k-$4k range will have the EZT non-servicable trannies and are not really designed to cut that much area and also provide the "reliable, low maintenance and easily serviceable" that you seek. If I were to recommend the brand I own(Gravely) it would be the ZT HD 48 that has a MSRP of $4999. You can find some ZTR's cheaper, but I suggest you consider spending a little more to get something that will hold up.

FERRIS WHAT A MOWER,,,,,,,,

I've been using and abusing my Ariens HVZ2350 for four Summers now. Got two acres with a whole lot of trees and lots of sharp turns to make. Engine, hydro, belts, deck, blades, tires etc, all original and in very nice shape. Never a problem. I do oil and grease three - four times a season and power wash it twice a month. Store battery in the house in winter. That's all. Point I'm making: I sure like the XL or MaxZoom series they sell now and will not hesitate to buy it.

I found my 2013 Hustler Fastrak on Fastline.com I was looking for something in my state that was priced right and of course out of state delivery can really add to the costs the company I found that listed this mower has several state wide locations so it was cheaper and less time consuming to have them take it to a local dealer and I picked it up from there. I also have a 12 yr. old JD with the 3rd trans axle on its way out with 3/4 inch angle iron and some bolts placed perpendicular on it to replace the original shift linkage and the deck has some angle iron on it also to keep the cracks in check no duct tape yet so it still looks good. Another site I found on the East coast is SLE Equipment they have really decent prices on Ferris ZT's . To give you an idea I paid $4,999 for a 54 inch deck, kaw. 23 hp. with zt3100 pumps. This is a good site with lots of help/suggestions for what ever your looking for. Good luck with your search.

Consider the Simplicity ZT3500, it's right in your price range. I think as long as you take care of and properly maintain your equipment it will last a very long time no matter the brand.
