Hello all

Have recently purchased a used Bolens BL60ME and knowing just a tad about these things thought I would try and connect to anyone else that had bought in haste!!!!

There is a bit of a saga attached to this machine and anyone that can't sleep...just contact me, I'll tell you the tale and will guarantee a perfect slumber :goodnight:

Welcome. I'm from Barnsley but live in NC now. There's hardly a Bolens without a history...

Welcome. I'm from Barnsley but live in NC now. There's hardly a Bolens without a history...

It's a hell of a way to come back for a decent pint of the old Barnsley Bitter innit?

Bolens without a history.....???? I did say buy in haste!!!!

I suspect mine is about 8 years old this year and the information given at purchase appears to be 100%. It was purchased and used a few times...and put away! Apart from 1/2 the paint gone on on the underneath of the pan....it's "new".. I even suspect that it's the original oil and air filter. Oil just changed.

I "fell" into the same trap.... did a mow....got off...put away.... left the ignition on....flat battery....except I purchased with a flat battery....noticed I had left the ignition on and put 2 + 2....and having a calculator handy!! I need to fit an ignition light (nice large one)...but cannot figure out which two wires to insert the light (LED).

With all the safety cut outs on it...the basic wiring is kids stuff...the rest is spaghetti!!

Any ideas??

The trouble is with all these mowers....they are like cars and lorries......there "bitsa's" Frame by MTD...engine B & S....transmission...what's his thingy... Basically....with a hacksaw and a bit of steel...you could put your own together...but the parts on their own would cost a bomb!

Look at White goods!!

I mean how stupid am I.... moved to Wales and buy a mower when there's millions of em dead cheap...up on the hills..... At the end of the mowing season...you eat it!!

What's the model and serial exactly? I will see if the wiring diagram is available. You can jump all the safety switches if you want...but they are there for a reason! To install a light you just need to figure out which wire is energised while the switch is on, but not pulling too much juice that will kill the bulb.

Thinking outside the box.
Go to a locksmith and buy one of those key keepers with a long string that you clip to your belt.
Cheaper, easier and then you can hang the key inside where it is out of the way so mower thieves will et a hernia stealing it & the kids / G kids won't accidentally start it when you kick them off the commuter to go outide and play in the drizzle.

Good idea.... Do you think the mower thieves would take the Grandkids instead :) ?
