Hello and I Need Some Help with my John Deere!

Thanks for this site. I have John Deere L130. Up to a couple of weeks ago, it was running fine. I cut the grass, put it away, and a couple of days later tried to start it up again and nothing! The lights will come on, but it will not crank -it seems to me to be something electrical.

I tried jumping it with my truck and nothing. I cleaned off the cables to the battery -still nothing. I've tested all of the switches and relays as per the manual and still nothing. Over the past 2 weeks I have replaced the seat switch, the ignition switch, and the brake switch. I've even put a new starter on it, and nothing. NO CRANK! The fuse is fine. I can hear the PTO engage when I pull the switch, the same with the Reverse power switch (RIO?), therefore, I have not replaced them. All the wires appear to be intact. Nothing obvious, except it will not crank. It has worked great until it all of a sudden won't even attempt to start.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

-Bill

Check engine oil level. Remove battery & take to auto parts store & ask them to load test battery, should not cost you a dime. Check all electrical connections including ground cables & straps by hand making sure everything is tight & secure. Let us know how it goes, thanks.

Did you try and jump it by going straight to the starter with your jumper cable?

Does it have a circuit board with fuses in it?
What about the ignition switch? did you check it?

Did you try prayer?

L130 made 2003 to 2005 with a Kohler Command CV23 engine. Kohler has a very nice web site with the service manuals. If you go there it has a trouble shooting section which will be very helpful

You've probably already checked the ground connections? There is usually one on the motor, and a ground connection on the starter. Do you have a multimeter? To check the voltage from the battery?. I am experiencing the same thing on my scag presently, so your thread is most interesting to me. . Haha. (I can laugh having the same problems) I have a deere 455, and I know there is more safety switches than the seat and the brake. I don't think the safety lockout on your pto prevents you from starting or does it? I can't remember for sure, and perhaps yours is different. ShiftSuper has some good ideas, there may be more circuit breakers / fuses on that than are in your manual also, or hidden away on a different page. I remember running into that with my Deere.

Ha ha, ShiftSuper suggested prayer! Good Idea! I'll pray for you, Pastor, Please pray for me fixing' this ol Scag. (Lord, you are the remover of difficulties!) Help us with these old lawn mowers. . . That was fun, anyway! And at least we're not cussing, whoops, I guess I did a few times today, Pastor! Forgive me!

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Monday is my work around the house/try to fix the lawnmower day. So, I once again cleaned off the battery and the cables, jumped it with my truck... and this time IT STARTED! No idea except prayer does work! Thanks for the suggestion! :)

If anyone would like to talk about how they might have a reconciled relationship with God through Christ, I'd be glad to answer any questions, since that's my area of expertise -as it's certainly not lawnmowers.

-Thanks again for your help.
