If anybody doesn't know what "Thanksgiving" is (and you probably wouldn't if you don't live in the USA) here's my explanation from the "Black Friday" thread:

Note to readers outside of the USA: "Black Friday" is an annual, traditional sale day occurring the day after Thanksgiving (a big American holiday, the third Thursday in November.) The sales often begin at midnight. It's called "Black" because retailers supposedly operate in the red (loss) for the year until the kickoff of the Christmas shopping season -- when they will go into the black (profit)
Anyway... have a happy November 25th (Thanksgiving) and November 26th (that would be Black Friday) no matter where you are.

Hi Two-Stroke, thank you for the explanation. I did not understand before why Americans greet Happy Thanksgiving a lot. Now I do :)

How did Thanksgiving start in America?

How did Thanksgiving start in America?

Here is a link to a Wikipedia article on Thanksgiving. It explains it in more detail than I could.

I didn't know that Thanksgiving is also celebrated in Canada until I read the article.

Happy Thanksgiving! Ours was in October, but Christmas isn't too far away now. Hopefully you do not eat too much turkey, won't be able to go shopping!

I do hope that everyone had a good day, wherever they are and regardless of the Thanksgiving aspect. Ours was quiet and peaceful ... and cold. We're going through a nasty cold period.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all American friends today. I just learned that Thanksgiving Day is actually a harvest festival. A guy named Meister Eckhart says, "If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, 'thank you,' that would suffice." Very true.
