I leave mine in the ignition with a string tied to it so if I knock it out it won't disappear.
Years ago I did the very same. But the neighbor kid liked to come over when my garage door is open. He loves getting his hands on everything. Once he turned my key just to ON. Which by the time in following week I was ready to mow, my battery was not. It was dead, & needing charged.
The kid isn't allowed over anymore, it's just safer, I don't want him to get hurt in my place & then I'm on the hook.
