I have a XT1 LT42
When I go to start the mower there is a high pitched whine and no start.
I spoke with the place I bought it from and they said switch the solenoid. I did and no change. If i get the battery to max charge it will eventually crank.
It came with a AGM battery but i just use a lead acid, as i am not going to pay $150.00 for a battery.

Most likely the starter is spinning but not moving out the gear to engage. There are many different types of starters so the rest is up to you. Some the solenoid controls it, some are forced out by the spinning action. Worn gear, broken teeth on the flywheel, broken parts in the "bendix," some the pivot screw is worn or has fallen out. You will have to figure out what kind you have. If you put a long 2' screwdriver on the starter and the other on your ear, you can probably hear it. That is my best guess.

Probably a Kohler Courage engine. The high pitched whine you hear and the engine does not turn over, is the starter trying to start, but can’t. When you hear the high pitched whine, stop turning the key, you are killing the starter. One of these problems: 1) valves need to be adjusted, 2) bad connections and experiencing voltage drop, 3) bad battery, 4) bad starter, 5) compression release on cam is not working. Now you have to troubleshoot and pinpoint the issue. Please supply model number of Cub Cadet and engine for more help.
