That handle that moves forward won't stay engaged....it's supposed to slip into the upper slot and stay there but it won't stay it just flops back to original position....HELP

Some joker pulled the plate off.....by pictures it looks to be an 82.....12 horse power built briggs

Google: Snapper rer manuals, click on third manual down, see pages 10 & 14 for mower drive belt adjustment, inspect belt & idler pulleys for replacement with Snapper OEM parts.
