GT225 using bigger string

My landlord wants me to weed eat around her pond. Especially that thick stuff that grows just inside the water. She's got a Briggs trimmer on wheels, that works pretty good. But it just kills my back after about 10 minutes, on the high sloped side. So I broke out my GT225, but the string doesn't last very long. So I found some thicker string, but it reduces the performance of the engine. Can I adjust the high side of the carb to help with this?

It shows 10,000 RPM max. I'm at about 6K with the thicker string at full length.

Or is this a no no for some reason I haven't thought about?

Watch the muffler & the drive
Running under heavy load that reduces engine speed causes carbon build up
On strait shafts it chews through the bevel gears
On bent shafts the drive shaft tends to come loose at the swages either end
Consider a solid blade the smallest diameter that will fit or fit a dragon fly head with precut line
Use a shorter length of thicker line or get a Tanaka manual head ( called ashtray by techs ) and again only lay out a short length of line

I assume you went from 080 to 095. If you move the line cutter so the line is an inch and a half or so shorter it will get the revs back and perform a little better. 21cc motor not going to knock your socks off.

I noticed that the shorter the line got, the higher the RPM's would get.

Yes @bertsmobile1 , it's a bent shaft. I noticed today that there was some grease coming out just above the head.
Can I adjust the carb up to about 9000 rpm with the thicker string?
I was using a .105. Now using a .130

The Echo 21 cc trimmers are gutless wonders. As with even .080 line they only peak out on max between 6900 and 8100 rpms, depending the version of the GT225. Even then you need to drop the max rpms by 20 rpms by tuning a little rich per my carburetor tune up chart here. If you want more speed switch to a SRM-225 which can peak out around 10K.

BTW bent shafts are not design for brush cutting. IF you keep up trying you will destroy the drive shaft. They are meant for light grass trimming. I got two Stihl FS80 brush cutters in the shop with broken flex drive shafts where they twisted in two. These flex shafts are $39+ each (cost). And I am repairing another FS55 gear box where they left it out in the weather and the bearing locked up. At least the idiot that was trying to fix it didn't it running as the muffler spark arrester was Orchard Wasped.

080 to 105 and now 130. You will probably kill it.

That sounds like PT is screwing those neck bolts too tight again.:ROFLMAO: Referring to his avatar.

Ok, thanks for all the info. My bright idea just got real dim. But you guys probably saved me from destroying the unit. Thanks. I'll just have to figure out how to do this pond with her trimmer on wheels, and not take out my back.

You really wouldn't like the old Ryobi 4 cycle bushcutter that I hated and the Red Max EB8001 backpack blower. Both are heavy as can be if you use either very long. I could only do about 1300 ft of fence line with the Ryobi with harness before my back gives out.

You may want to look around for a used stihl FS80. Lots of lawn services used them and as long as the oil was mixed properly they are pretty bulletproof. Can take a brush blade so 130 string no problem. 59cc vs the echo 21cc. No comparison.

Back pain will make you think crazy stuff sometimes.

I finished that darn pond yesterday. OMG. I finally got to some more level ground and was able to use her big swisher weed eater. It was just back and forth, instead of up and down.
My internals are going to enjoy several days without pain meds.

Doctors don't care like they use to. I having to try to find one that will put me back on the BP meds that was working. Dr Charles Kidd here has refused to do anything about getting me back on the right meds that he change without even discussing it with me.

This morning BP was 179/109. with the previous med it would be 130/90.

But as for pain meds most doctors will not even prescribe them at all. They think we all are dope heads; therefore, we just looking for a fix. Well I wish them the same pain without being able to get the meds themselves.

Don't forget about Big Brother.
Every prescription that gets filled in for you is recorded on a state and perhaps even a national data base .
So some pencil neck on the 22nd floor in a government building will be keeping tabs what you are taking to ensure that the doctors are not contraveining prescription regulations.
Note he does not care if you live or die and is only interested in prosecuting the doctor .
With a lot of blood pressure meds there is a limit on the time you are allowed to take them for.
I ran into that problems with the Steroids I was on for the RA
I wanted to keep on them till shearing was over just in case there was a relapse because holding down alpacas is quite a difficult job and they really don't like having a hair cut.
Should I loose grip then the 4 of us risked very serious injury
So I had to drop to 1/4 dosage for 3 months to make sure I had enough for full doses during the shearing month.
Also a lot of medications have a diminishing effect over time .
I don't know about the USA but down here the best answers I get about the effect of medications come from Vets .
Placental mammals all get the same medicine , just in different amounts but those who treat more than 1 species of animals seem to have a far better knowledge of what the drugs actually do & the risks of over prescribing or treating for too long than any GP I have ever talked to and judging upon what the pharmasist put on the label more than chemists as well .
My specialist was fantastic & loaned me a big folder of research papers to read on Hydroxychloroquine , Methotrexate & Prednisone because he realized I would make the effort to read & could understand ( almost ) what I read .

Meloxicam, or something like that works pretty good. When I could get hydrocodone, I wouldn't take it unless the pain was severe. I had one bottle for a couple of years. Try and tell a doctor that you only need one small prescription of that per year and they think you're lying.
