So I bought this Great Dane ('Surfer' I think...) late 2013 from this young Goof off Craigslist that seemed like he didn't know what he had or what the hell he was talking about, Anyway I stole it from him for $500 and with it came an attached trac-vac custom Box with 6 HP. 'Kohler Command' Mounted on the frame. I ended up with a nightmare finding parts cause apparently this Bonehead kid raped all the tags, vins and other numbers you can think of off everything (Including trac-vac unit).

Long story short after playing pictionary with parts in my hand and looking at google images I finally figured out this has a Newer replacement Kohler 22 Hp engine and the Great Dane is the Surfer Model. Ended up buying new carb on forward because num nuts evidently ended up yanking both carbs and air boxes off both engines too.

Anyway I'm trying to figure out what I can get for it... Its in my garage now and I have had the whole thing sanded down to bare metal and primed (some parts at Sand Blast shop). It has all new tires, new trac-vac hose nice *** custom box attached and will be basically brand new looking when its finished. Are there any good sites I can post on besides CL?... Ill post Youtube video soon. Thanks!

P.S. Has no Hour meter but engine compression on both is perfect.

Not to be rude, but it sounds to me like he sold you that mower at a steal because it was stolen. Or he thought the mower was junk and didn't want to put money into the machine to fix it and just wanted it gone.

No reason to scrape serial numbers off unless it is stolen. You bought a hot mower. Rule of thumb, if a deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. The right thing to do would be to contact your local police department and check to see if there has been a mower matching that description stolen from the area the " bone head" lives in. If so the right owner should get his/her mower back.

Get a lawyer first then go to the police.

I got a mower at a good deal.
All the tags was gone. Had a officer come look at it and I was charged with receiving stolen property and removing a vin tag to hide the identity of a motor vehicle.

Good thing my friend is a good lawyer and made the cop look dumb in court.

I am thinking the same thing. Probably stolen since the kid was lost and removed all the VIN and serial numbers.

I should have worded it better, he took the tags off and stickers cause he said he wanted to paint it. He gave me the main metal tag that came off the deck that says has serial # &model GDSF52 but was no help cause the engine was a replacement Kohler, I'm guessing the engine numbers were on the air box but that was off and he said he lost it. He had it all apart trying to get it running. It didn't seem like he was trying to sell me stolen item, he was just a young guy trying to repair something but kind of gave up plus it was end of the year first day it started snowing. He had it on CL for like 2 weeks but people were only offering to buy the trac vac unit.

That is crazy. If you get a receipt of sale when you purchase something you can prove who you purchased it from. Much less expensive than contacting an attorney. Don't know what kind of experience you have with law enforcement, but I am interested in catching the guy who stole it not the one who purchased it. Always get them to sign and dat e a receipt with a witness. That way you are covered if it is stolen.

Thats some good advice. Get a GOOD lawyer first and do as he says. Some will say its a waste of money but how much money is wasted after you are charged to prove you did not steal and that you are a victim also.
