I need to change one of the wheel studs and went to the local gravely dealer. He told me that I would have to buy the whole hub, gravely does not sell just one wheel stud. I took some measurements and this is what I came up with. 1/2-20 rh, knurl dia about .619, knurl lenght about .420, total lenght 1.75.
I tried searching on the web for a car replacement stud but if I find a .619 or .620 the knurl lenght is longer.
First of all is my measurements correct? What could I use to replace this wheel stud.
Thanks

Thanks, the model is Gravely PRO-TURN 148 W
serial #000331

I had pro160 on my mind and I miss read my mics and the knurl dia is .520. not .620
on another note when I first purchase the mower over 2 years ago it came from the factory with one of the pulleys on the spindles the wrong size.
Other than that I love the way this mower cuts and operates.

passgas55,

Did you purchase that Pro-Turn new at the dealer you went to about the wheel stud? If you bought it new and that was two years ago would your unit not still be covered for that problem under the 3-Year Consumer Warranty(or do you use your ZTR Commercially which would limit the Warranty to 2 years)? Was the wrong size pulley fixed after your purchase?

techsupport,

WOW...I never imagined that Ariens Company monitored these forums and were available to assist Ariens/Gravely owners in solving difficult problems that a dealer has been unable to address!! First of all, I recently purchased a Gravely Pro-Turn 152 XDZ and could not be more pleased with the quality of this ZTR. I looked a a bunch of ZTR's before buying and another thing that influenced my decision was that my next door neighbor has had an Ariens ZTR for 15 years or so and it still makes his yard look like a golf course when he mows!!! When I found out that Ariens had purchased the Gravely Company, which already had a stellar reputation for quality, and considering the build, features, warranty and price on my Pro-Turn compared to the competitors' brands that I had I looked at the decision to purchase my Gravley was easy. I look forward to many years of reliable service but it is encouraging to see Ariens Company support to be assertive in their effort to assist their customers who do encounter a difficult problem. I hope you are able to help user passgas55 resolve the wheel stud problem.

Passgas 55-

Sorry for the delayed response.

I can't find these type of studs, as I thought I could. I need to refer you to a Hardware specialist, such as: Fastenal, Grainger, or Endries (add .com on the end and you can find them online).

A local automotive center might be a great resource to try first as well.

Our vendor does not offer the studs as a separate item.

Best of luck. If you need any additional questions answered, please call our Tech Service line at 920.756.4688.

Thank you,

Ariens/Gravely

You can add another great review for the Pro-Turn 152(even though I've only mowed 6 times with it since buying it mid-September). This was my first ZTR after over 20 years using a lawn tractor and I researched the ZTR technology and compared the major brands for several months. I had narrowed it down to the Gravely and Toros, Bad Boys, Dixons, Hustlers & Husqvarnas when I was ready to make offers. The quality of the build, features, price and warranty of the Gravely made the final choice easy and I never looked back. I was recently made aware of the Kawasaki recall on the faulty fuel filters(#13-040 on the cpsc.gov website) and am going to check mine this weekend. The recall specified it was on the FX691V/DS04 engine series my Pro-Turn has that were sold between October, 2011 and August, 2012 and since I purchased mine mid-September I may be OK. If not, I am confident that my local dealer will replace the filter without a problem(they gave me a can of Gravely touch-up paint when they delivered my Pro-Turn because there were a couple of scratches on the back engine cage from unloading....a good sign they take good care of their customers). Again, I will recommend Ariens Company products to any friends or family that are in the market for your products without hesitation.

Thanks for your time in looking up the studs for me. I have a hard time believing that something simple as a wheel stud I can not get a part from Gravely. I should had known better than to buy another Gravely product. The first one I had was the single blade zturn for small yards with the electric clutch on the bottom of the deck. when the clutch went out due to a very bad enginnering design my only option was to pay $500 to have a new clutch install on top. just too much money for a $2000 machine so i went back to a push mower again. Then I got this second home and stupid me I bought another Gravely, a Pro148. Good machine but if you can not get a $3 part to fix it well it is not much use to me.This is my last gravely i will ever buy I understand things do break but something as simple as a wheel stud come on man I should not have to try to match it at a hardware place. gravely has to buy them some where.

The studs are not a Gravely part. They are part of the Hydro-Gear transmission. You can buy the Hydro-Gear part number 71691. It's a new hub & 5 bolts. List price of such part is $42.

passgas55,
That was a good catch by user ghessler26!!! Even though Gravely should have pointed you to Hydro-Gear with some hindsight it should have been obvious that the wheel studs were part of the transmission assembly. Below is a link to the Hydro-Gear Service & Repair manuals that you may find beneficial as well. It doesn't list the specific part#'s though and you may want to contact Hydro-Gear to confirm the nearest parts supplier for you to get a new hub assembly. Hey, if you contact Hydro-gear directly, they may even sonsider the stud a warrantied part. Link to the Service manuals follows:
